A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With The First Step

In your struggles with social anxiety, keep in mind:  the first step is usually the hardest.  You might be overwhelmed with fear of social situations, loneliness, and depression, wondering if things will ever improve; you might even erroneously conclude that it’s impossible for things to improve.  But it’s not.

The fact of the matter is, if you’ve been doing nothing to combat SA, you’re scared of taking the first step.  Whether that first step is going to a party or club, asking an old friend to hang out, or simply making yourself leave the house…it needs to be taken in order to get the healing process rolling.

Of course, keeping the improvements going is another beast in of itself.  But if you don’t take the first step, your journey can never even begin!

Push yourself every day, little by little, even if it takes hours of calming down and preparation.  Think positive thoughts and rewrite the negative ones.  Remember the things you’re good at…the things that make you a valuable person, a worthy friend.  Decide that you’re going to change your life and gain back everything SA has seemed to take from you.

Take that first step and never look back.
